Brady Corbet's THE BRUTALIST Leads With Nine Nominations At Chicago Film Critics Association 2024 Awards
THE SUBSTANCE notches seven noms while ANORA, NICKEL BOYS and WICKED each claim six for year’s best in film; nearly forty films recognized overall with nominations.
Chicago, IL (December 10, 2024) — The Chicago Film Critics Association (CFCA) today announces nominees for their top film honors of 2024; winners will be announced at the organization’s annual awards ceremony to be held in Chicago on Wednesday, December 11. Winners will be announced at 8p CT.
Leading with nine total nominations is Brady Corbet’s original epic THE BRUTALIST; Coralie Fargeat’s body horror THE SUBSTANCE earned seven nominations, while ANORA (Sean Baker), NICKEL BOYS (RaMell Ross) and WICKED (Jon M. Chu) each notch six.
Comprised of voting members who represent outlets including the Chicago Sun-Times, The New York Times, Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, RogerEbert.com, The A.V Club, Vulture, NPR, and many more, the Chicago Film Critics Association annually presents traditional awards including Best Picture, Director, Actor and Actress, among others. With a particular focus on emerging talents, the CFCA also presents breakthrough awards to both an actor and filmmaker with the most promise for future career achievements.
A reliably diverse voting body, the 2024 Chicago Film Critics Awards again honor a broad list of films and creators, with a total of 39 films nominated across nineteen categories. Of note this year are two categories where nominations, which are voted on by the full CFCA membership, resulted in a tie vote and six (rather than the standard five) total nominees are named: Best Film and Best Original Score. Other nominations unique to the CFCA include Chicago’s own Keith Kupferer nominated for Best Actor (GHOSTLIGHT) and two nominations for the indie sleeper hit HUNDREDS OF BEAVERS.
